BS Area Studies for China

NUML is a unique institution in terms of the range of oriental, occidental and regional/local languages that are taught and researched about. Keeping in view the growing importance of China and Chinese Studies for the world in general and for Pakistan in particular, NUML has established department of Area Studies for China, further capitalizing on its strengths as a university of languages and culture.

Objectives of the Program:

  1. To deepen the knowledge and understanding about Chinese people, their long history, economy, trade, language, literatures, art and culture.
  2. To produce scholars of Chinese Studies to cater to the fast growing needs of CPEC and B&R Initiative.
  3. To build strong knowledge and research based foundations for a lasting relationship between Pakistan and China keeping in view their futuristic mutual needs.


Area Studies in China provides a broad understanding of Chinese history, society, economy, culture, politics, language, literature, and arts as well as the scale of China's impact on world’s economy and international relations. The interdisciplinary program prepares students as globally aware and cross-culturally competent professionals

It prepares students to apply their practical language skills, cultural knowledge, and global awareness to a wide variety of career choices in Pakistan and beyond:

Admission Criteria:

Intermediate with 2nd Div. OR A–Level with 50% marks OR Equivalent.

How to Apply:

  1. For Admission, please visit NUML admission website:
  2. Print out of online admission form + bank challan along with educational documents (attested from Gazetted Officer) i.e. DMCs/degrees (in case of result awaited, copy of Roll No. Slip of last exams and an Undertaking on the Stamp Paper as per pattern mentioned in the admission form), CNIC/Form-B, domicile, ETC result card if already cleared, 3 x photographs and paid bank receipt of Rs.1000/- must reach by registered / courier etc. at University address: National University of Modern Languages, Sector H-9, Islamabad.
  3. Application received by hand / after due date/ incomplete form will not be accepted / entertained.
  4. Hostel Facility: Limited hostel accommodation is available at Main Campus Islamabad. Students can collect hostel application form from the office of Director Students Affairs, after submission of semester / course fee.
  5. Fee Refund: According to Fee Refund Policy i.e. 100% within 1st week, 50% within 2nd week, no refund after fifteen (15) days of commencement of semester / session
  6. Transport Facility: is available on specific routes in Rawalpindi / Islamabad and Wah / Taxila on payment.
  7. University is not obliged to start a program in a particular discipline if it finds any constraint. Admission will stand cancelled at any stage without any notice if a student fails to fulfil eligibility criteria.
