The Central Library was founded with the establishment of National Institute of Modern Languages (NIML) in 1970. The institute was elevated to the status of National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in May 2000. The Library is housed in a two storey building and a basement having total covered area of 30115 sq.ft. The Library is well furnished and fully air-conditioned. The present library holdings is over one hundred and fifteen thousand (1,15,000) comprising books, journals, documents and non-book material on various disciplines. Functioning as language institute and later as a full-fledged University, major part of the library collection consists of the source material initial on languages. However, with the introduction of new disciplines like Education, Mass Communication, International Relations, Economics, Information Technology and Management Sciences, the Library has acquired adequate number of books in these disciplines as well.
Borrowing facilities are available only to regular and bona fide students of the University in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Library. The enrolled membership of the Library includes about eight thousand students and teachers. The open shelf access policy is in practice. The scholars, faculty members and students of the university can access the bibliographical information of the Library holdings through Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Nazir Library is meant for providing library services to all students, teachers and staff of the University. It procures textbooks, reference books, newspapers, magazines and other reading material.
It is primarily a ‘Lending Library’ having major of its collections on textbooks but also provides reference services to its readers.

Audio-Visual Aids are available to the students and faculty members in the library. The Audio-visual Aids Section consists of about 3000 audio/video and other non-book material pertaining to the courses offered by the University. Cable and satellite networking is also available to the students to improve their listening comprehension skills.
The Satellite Bouquet Room has been established on the ground floor with an objective to provide direct satellite receptions to the students in the Library and the specified classrooms of the departments. This facility provides opportunity to the students of various languages courses by listening to the native speakers of the respective languages, live conferences, seminars, symposiums and other socio-cultural activities. The important programmes pertaining to the requirements of students are recorded on DVDs/Videos on the demand of the respective Heads of the Departments which are then provided to them in the sanitized version.
The students, scholars and faculty members of the University are provided photocopy facilities at two Photocopy Points
Book Bank facility is available where study material of various language courses offered by the University is provided to the enrolled students on subsidized rates.
R & D Lab facilities are available in the Library where the Internet & E-mail facilities are provided to the enrolled students and research scholars of the University. In addition to subscription to hard copies, thousands of electronic contents and books are available online. Major subject areas covered by this multi-discipline resource are Science & Technology, Social Sciences, Languages & Literature, Medicine, and many other subjects. A dedicated section has been earmarked for theses where about 6000 theses/project reports pertaining to the disciplines offered by the University are available to the research scholars
The United Nations System in Pakistan has shifted its Reference Library on the premises of the Central Library of NUML with a collection of over 13,000 (thirteen thousand) consisting of books, journals/ periodicals on various subjects.
