TEACHING  EXPERIENCE

NEW YORK, USA:

2011- 2012: Have taught as Fulbright Teaching Assistant for Urdu, Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, New York University, NY.


LEVELS TAUGHT:

  • Assisted in teaching Urdu at Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced levels.
  • Taught all four language skills in the language classroom, developed worksheets for practicing reading and writing skills, designed different activities for student’s oral skills, and prepared a variety of activities, worksheets for videos, and songs to help students practice listening skills. Grammar and different types of vocabulary for student’s daily use is always kept in mind and to improve that, quizzes are administered on a daily or weekly basis.
  • Also assisted with the teaching of works by poets like Ghalib, Faiz, Iqbal, Parveen Shakir and Faraz, fiction by Saadat Hassan Manto, Deputy Nazir Ahmad, and Ammara Ahmad, to Intermediate classes.
  • Provided my assistance in developing materials for the Advanced Urdu I and II classes.

 

PAKISTAN

  • 2007 – to present: Lecturer teaching English as a second language, National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad, Pakistan.

LEVELS TAUGHT:

  • Taught at all levels such Masters in English Language, Linguistics and Literature, Bs English, BSML, language courses etc.
  • Taught proficiency courses such as TOEFL and IELTS.
  • Language courses such as Certificate and Diploma courses of 6 months and advanced diploma of a year.
  • To Languages courses taught all four language skills including speaking, writing, reading and listening by designing all the activities and worksheets. Designing activities also include role play, movies, songs, games, and debates etc.
  • Taught Drama and Phonetics to BS and BSML (Bachelors in Modern languages)
  • To the Maters class taught Phonetics and Phonology, history of English language, poetry and drama.
  • Also taught TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) to MA ELT (English Language Teaching) students.
  • Taught CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) to MA ELT students continuously for three years.
  • 2006-2007: Worked as English teacher in Siddique Public School, Islamabad, Pakistan.  Taught 4th and 5th grade classes.

  • 2011: Attended Event “FAIZ and FILM” organized by the Hindi/Urdu Programs at NYU, NYU, NY.


AWARDS, HONORS

  • Selected as a Pakistani ambassador along with 9 ambassadors out of 450 FLTA’s to attend the Fulbright conference held in Washington to meet Congressional leader Mr. Paul Foldi at the Capitol building.
  • Selected to represent Pakistani culture via a poster session out of at the Fulbright Washington Conference.
  • Worked as a part of the departmental team for the maintenance of the official departmental website and received a letter of appreciation from the Dean. NUML Islamabad, Pakistan.
  • Awarded prize for English debate, College for Women, Islamabad, Pakistan.
  • Awarded second price for relay race, College for Women, Islamabad, Pakistan.
