Welcome to the Department of Spanish, NUML!

Spanish language is one of the most important and widely spoken languages in the world. In fact, it is the 3rd most spoken language in the world after English and Chinese, and the 2nd most spoken language in the world in terms of native speakers.

It is the official language of Spain, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Uruguay and Venezuela. Not only in Spain and Latin American countries, but is widely spoken in the United States of America and it is one of the official languages of the United Nations and many other international organizations.

Department of Spanish, NUML is the only place in the country for quality teaching-learning of Spanish language. In addition to teaching Spanish as a foreign language, the department also offers authentic translation services from English & Urdu to Spanish and vice versa.

Learning Spanish at the Department of Spanish NUML will help you learn about different cultures of the Spanish speaking countries with native teachers, and will also open the doors for work, business and higher study opportunities within the country as well as in Spanish speaking world and in USA.

Overview

The Department of Spanish was first founded in 1983 and was reestablished in 2002 after a gap of many years. Since then it is one of the few places in the entire South Asia that offers a wide range of basic and advance level language courses and the opportunity of learning Spanish language from native speakers.

Our faculty comprises of native speakers of the language from different Spanish speaking countries including Spain, Argentina, Bolivia, Philippines as well as Pakistani teachers who are graduates of the same department.

The Department provides a multicultural platform for cultural interaction since it not only receives students from all parts of Pakistan but it has also ocassionally catered students from Afghanistan, China, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Our alumni are working at good positions in different prestigious organizations including embassies, schools, multinational companies and tourism industry. With the expanding international job market, more job opportunties are emerging for students of Spanish. Many of our students get jobs during their studies.
