An automatic satellite tracking system is designed to track and align dish antenna perfectly with the desired satellite automatically especially in Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) vans and to save time and human efforts and control system wirelessly while tracking satellite is our primary objective. DSNG vans mostly faced issues with their existing manual antenna tracking system due to bad weathers, hilly areas and harsh conditions. The objective behind the antenna tracking system is to considerably reduced the effort required to align the antenna with the desired satellite.
The tracking system is controlled by an android application through which user can select the desire satellite and the dish can align itself automatically to the selected satellite. For the movement of dish antenna two motors are used: one is for azimuth movement and second is for elevation movement. The motors are controlled by Arduino and the Arduino is connected to mobile application via Bluetooth module. Moreover, a Low Noise Block (LNB) is connected to receiver which displays video signal on Liquid crystal Display (LCD).
The prototype of the system shows satisfactory result with error in acceptable range of 2-
3 degrees which occurs mainly due to surrounding effect such as electromagnetic interferences. The input data from the user is transferred accurately to controller through Bluetooth module and the main controller controls the dish antenna movement accurately
