Jean Monnet Chair organized webinar on the topic “Evolution of European Democracy: Lessons for Pakistan.” Giving introduction and relevance of the webinar subject, the Chair holder, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Riaz Shad, identified the essential features of liberal democracy. In the light of these features, he pointed out the issues linked with the performance and legitimacy of democracy in Pakistan. Key speaker of the webinar Mr. Akhtar Chaudhry, former Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Norway, delineated the foundational characteristics of the European democracy. He explained how the liberal norms and principles of the European democracy work towards the betterment of state and society. Mr. Chaudhry, then, discussed the lessons that the developing countries like Pakistan can learn from the European democratic ethos.
