Department of Translation & Interpretation

Overview

Our unique department, within the Faculty of Languages, offers a distinctive and varied educational structure, involving over 23 languages.

The demand for qualified translators and interpreters is strong in today’s world. The skill of translation is becoming ever more important and desirable. Today’s multicultural and multilingual society demands effective, efficient, and empathetic communication between languages and cultures. Given the situation, NUML has proudly set up the Department of Translation and Interpretation, which is expected to meet the needs of the time with its two-tier contribution to the field.

Firstly, the department provides professional services for translation and interpretation throughout Pakistan. It is the only institution in Pakistan with skilled professionals capable of translating to and from 23 national and international languages.

Secondly, realizing that effective, efficient, and empathetic translation requires highly skilled practitioners, the department has introduced a BSL&TS Degree Program. Courses in Translation Studies are an excellent way for linguists, language graduates, and translators to develop a deep understanding of the academic field and the skills to practice as a translation professional. Our Language and Translation Studies program is designed for individuals seeking to pursue careers in translation and interpretation. Our reputable and rigorous program offers high-level academic and professional training to set you apart from the competition.

Vision

Affirming the centrality of translation in our shared existence and its key role in all the intercultural, professional and academic encounters, the Department of Translation and Interpretation will continue to strive to have a transformative impact on society through teaching, innovation and research.

Mission
