The Department of Pakistan Studies at NUML, Islamabad, hosted a seminar titled "Cultural Heritage of Pakistan" at the Ibn-e-Rush Hall, featuring Dr. Zobia Sultana, Deputy Director of Lok Virsa Islamabad, as the chief guest. The seminar showcased Pakistan's rich cultural diversity through presentations by Pakistan Studies students, which impressed Dr. Sultana.
Later, Mr. Poitr Kunat, First Secretary of the Embassy of Poland, attended the Cultural Show as the guest of honor. He was deeply impressed by the cultural performances and even sampled Pakistan's local cuisine. Mr. Kunat also visited various stalls on the NUML grounds, praising the Department of Pakistan Studies for their efforts.

EMC Standards and Pre compliance Testing

The department of Electrical Engineering organized a seminar titled EMC standards and pre-compliance testing as part of a three day faculty development program. The speaker at the seminar was Engr Awais Maqsood who is a specialist in the field. 
EMC and EMI tests are a mandatory requirement for product marketing in advance countries. 
The participants of the seminar were introduced about the significance of EMI/ EMC tests and how considering them the the early stages of product development can lead to marketable designs and aid in avoiding the need to redesign the product at a later stage

Seminar on Design and fabrication process of rigid flex PCBs

The department of Electrical engineering organized a seminar on design and fabrication process of rigid flex PCBs on 6th November 2024. The seminar was part of the 3-day faculty development program that was conducted by Engr. Ali Nisar who is a senior research officer and project director at National Institute of Electronics. 
The seminar aimed to provide the skills necessary to effectively implement designs requiring flex and rigid flex circuits in accordance with product requirements. The seminar focussed on the impact of these designs on manufacturing and assembly techniques. 
The participants were provided with the opportunity to explore PCB design software and understand how to define board stack ups and outline geometry for complex board shapes.

The 3rd and final seminar of the faculty development program held by the department of Electrical Engineering took place on the 8th November 2024. The topic of the seminar was "Digital IC design flow and it's applications in embedded systems". The speaker at the seminar was Dr. Haroon Waris. The seminar started with an explanation of IC design flow touching on each phase in the flow. The process of digital IC functional design including hardware concepts and functional verification was discussed. 
The challenges of scaling, cost and physical attributes in the semi-conductor industry were a part of the post seminar discussion.

Seminar on Underwater Communication Networks

The Department of Electrical Engineering organized a seminar on the 18th November 2024. The seminar titled " Underwater Communication Networks" was attended by the students of BEEE and BSCE. Dr. Ali Niaz (Director, MARS Lab, FAST University) was the guest speaker at the seminar. Over the past decades underwater communication mostly consisted of heavy cables that were used to establish communication between the remote underwater passages and the surface. But the burden and cost of these cables rendered limitations in underwater communication. The seminar discussed these limitations, the modern modes of communication and the nature of the underwater networks. Various applications like oceanographic data collection and underwater radio were also discussed in the seminar.

2nd Live Streaming Session with Successful Alumni on English UGS YouTube Channel and English Alumni Society Facebook Page by EAS

On November 9, the English Alumni Society of the Department of English hosted its second Live Streaming Session with Successful Alumni, broadcasted on the English UGS YouTube Channel and the English Alumni Society Facebook page. The session featured esteemed guest speakers: Mr. Saqib Munir, a CSS (PSP) officer; Ms. Hina Hassan, Deputy Director at the Quality Enhancement Cell of Superior University; and Ms. Amna Ahmad, a senior Content Writer and Team Leader.

The event achieved great success, garnering over 750 views across both platforms. The audience, comprising current students and alumni, was captivated by the speakers' insightful responses to questions posed by host Syed Abbas Karim, along with additional audience questions. Attendees commended the speakers for their expertise, eloquence, and engaging presentations.

A Literary Gathering on Billy Collins' anthology Bright Wings by ERC

The English Readers' Club of the English  Department (UGS) of the Afternoon Shift organized a literary gathering on Billy Collins' anthology Bright Wings on November 14, 2024. Faculty members including the HoD attended the program.

Under Ms. Aleena Shahzad's guidance, students explored the anthology's evocative poems, discussing birds as metaphors for human emotions and connections to nature. The event emphasized poetry’s ability to unveil life’s complexities, inspiring reflection on our bond with the natural world.  

Students recited selected poems, and the event concluded with the distribution of origami birds to the audience.
