Prof. Dr. Muhammad Riaz Shad, Jean Monnet Chair, delivered Guest Talk titled “Dynamics and Drivers of Regional Integration in Europe and South Asia: A Comparative Analysis” at the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies (DSS), Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad. Prof. Shad explained the concept, factors and process of the phenomenon of regional integration. Elaborating the forms and stages of regional integration, he differentiated between the European ‘hard integration’ and the Asian ‘soft integration.’ He compared the structural factors that account for the success of regional integration in Europe and the constraints for regional integration in South Asia.
