Jean Monnet Chair organized a seminar to debate the efficacy of the US-EU economic sanctions against Russia over the latter’s military intervention in Ukraine with effect from 24th February 2022. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Riaz Shad, Jean Monnet Chair at NUML, presented the historical background and structural factors of the Ukraine conflict. Prof. Dr. Rafal Ozarowski, from the University of Business and Administration in Gdynia, Poland, depicted the security and socio-political landscape of Eastern Europe following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Dr. Farah Naz, from the School of Social Sciences & Humanities at National University of Science and Technology (NUST), discussed the nature and scope of the Western sanctions against Russia and the latter’s response to counter the economic effects of the sanctions.
