Seminar on World Mental Health Day

East Campus

On October 10, 2024, in celebration of World Mental Health Day, the Department of Applied Psychology at NUML, Islamabad successfully organized a special event aimed at promoting mental health awareness and well-being. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Riaz Shad, Dean of Social Sciences, who attended the session. The program began with an insightful session by our esteemed guest speaker, Dr. Muhammad Rizwan, Head of the Psychology Department at NUMS and a distinguished Clinical Psychologist. His talk emphasized the importance of "Mental Health at the Workplace," offering practical strategies for managing stress and emotional challenges. Following his address, students performed a creative play and a poem, both highlighting the significance of mental health support and self-care.
After the seminar, Dr. Rizwan, along with Dr. Ulfat Nisa, Head of the Psychology Department at NUML, Islamabad, visited the psychological awareness stalls set up by both the morning and afternoon students. These Mental Health Day stalls focused on mental health assessments, stress management techniques, and raising awareness about psychological well-being. Dr. Muhammad Rizwan and Dr. Ulfat Nisa appreciated the students' efforts and creativity, commending them for their active participation and the valuable information they shared with attendees.
In the closing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Riaz Shad presented a shield to Dr. Muhammad Rizwan as a token of appreciation for his valuable contribution. The event, with its diverse and engaging activities, made a significant impact on fostering mental health awareness among all participants.

Literary Circle conducted by ELS on 7th October

English Literary Society of Department of English UGS hosted a vibrant "Literary Circle" on 7th October 2024 celebrating artistic expression of the students. The event featured poetry recitals, story-telling, dramatic monologues, indigenous narratives and an artwork collection display. Most of the presented literary works were penned down by the students of BS English. The session celebrated linguistic diversity, including works in English, Urdu, and indigenous languages. Through poetry, music, and visual art, the event powerfully explored themes of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of literature. Motivational poetry was a highlight of the event, emphasizing self-reliance and confidence in young students.

This excursion provided students with invaluable exposure to global academic and scholarship opportunities. During the event, students interacted with representatives from esteemed international universities and attended a comprehensive IELTS masterclass delivered by renowned expert Ms. Roudaba Shuja. The masterclass elucidated IELTS examination formats, strategic reading techniques, and scoring metrics, emphasizing the development of comprehension, accuracy, and effective communication skills. Additionally, the session offered in-depth guidance on enhancing writing and speaking skills, focusing on lexical sophistication and grammatical precision.
