NUML Financial Awareness, Literacy and Community Outreach Network Society (FALCON)
The NUML Financial Awareness, Literacy and Community Outreach Network Society (FALCON) is a student-centred initiative of the Department of Accounting and Finance designed to promote financial understanding and responsible financial behaviour. Its rationale is to address gaps in everyday financial knowledge that can limit informed decision-making and access to financial services. FALCON aims to help individuals understand financial choices, manage available resources, and recognize financial risks while enabling students to apply their learning through community service.
FALCON’s scope encompasses financial literacy and community outreach within NUML and surrounding communities, with particular attention to young people, women, underserved groups, and individuals with limited financial awareness. Its activities will cover budgeting, saving, responsible borrowing, basic investment concepts, digital payments, consumer rights, and awareness of financial scams. The society will encourage collaboration among students, faculty, financial institutions, educational organizations, and community partners to deliver accessible learning suited to participants’ needs.
FALCON’s role is to organize awareness sessions, practical workshops, outreach campaigns, and student volunteer activities that explain financial concepts in clear and relevant language. It will prepare educational materials, train student financial literacy ambassadors, and coordinate community programmes with suitable partners. By gathering participant feedback and assessing changes in understanding, FALCON will improve its activities and contribute to financial inclusion, responsible citizenship, and stronger links between the Department and the communities it serves.
