Accounting and Finance Nurturing and Advising Network (AFNAN)
The Accounting and Finance Nurturing and Advising Network (AFNAN) is a departmental initiative at NUML designed to support students’ academic progress, personal development, and wellbeing. Its rationale is to provide an accessible and supportive environment where students can seek guidance, discuss difficulties, and receive timely assistance. AFNAN aims to strengthen students’ confidence, sense of belonging, and ability to manage the challenges of university life through structured advising, mentoring, and connections with appropriate support services.
AFNAN’s scope encompasses academic advising, student mentoring, peer support, wellbeing awareness, and the identification of barriers to learning and participation within the Department of Accounting and Finance. It will support students facing academic, personal, social, or financial difficulties, with particular attention to those requiring additional assistance. The network will connect students with faculty advisers, relevant university offices, scholarship opportunities, and qualified counselling services according to their needs.
AFNAN’s role is to coordinate advising sessions, facilitate faculty and peer mentoring, organize orientation and wellbeing activities, and follow up on students requiring support. It will help students understand academic requirements, develop effective study habits, and access available assistance through respectful and discreet communication. By maintaining appropriate confidentiality, gathering student feedback, and referring concerns requiring specialist attention to qualified professionals, AFNAN will contribute to a caring, inclusive, and responsive departmental environment.
