NUML Green and Islamic Finance for Tomorrow Society (GIFT)
The NUML Green and Islamic Finance for Tomorrow Society (GIFT) is a student-centred initiative of the Department of Accounting and Finance designed to promote understanding of ethical, inclusive, and environmentally responsible finance. Its rationale is to help students explore how Islamic financial principles and sustainable finance practices can contribute to economic wellbeing, social justice, and environmental protection. GIFT aims to connect classroom learning with practical financial approaches that address societal needs and prepare students for emerging professional opportunities.
GIFT’s scope encompasses Islamic banking and finance, sustainable investment, climate finance, Sukuk, Takaful, and environmental, social, and governance considerations. It provides a platform for students and faculty to examine these fields, including their areas of overlap, through academic discussion, practical learning, and engagement with professionals. The society will encourage collaboration with financial institutions, industry experts, and relevant organizations to broaden students’ understanding of responsible financing and sustainable development.
GIFT’s role is to organize seminars, workshops, case discussions, industry visits, and student projects that develop knowledge and practical skills in green and Islamic finance. It will facilitate interactions with practitioners and qualified Shariah scholars, encourage research on relevant financial challenges, and promote awareness of ethical investment and environmental responsibility. Through these activities, GIFT will strengthen students’ analytical abilities, professional awareness, and capacity to contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable financial system.
