NUML Society for Accounting Forensics and E-Financial Security (SAFE)

The NUML Society for Accounting Forensics and E-Financial Security (SAFE) is a student-centred initiative of the Department of Accounting and Finance designed to promote financial integrity, fraud awareness, and responsible use of digital financial services. Its rationale is to prepare students to understand the risks arising from financial misconduct, deceptive practices, and increasingly digital transactions. SAFE aims to connect accounting knowledge with forensic thinking and digital security awareness, strengthening students’ ability to recognize warning signs and approach financial information critically and ethically.

SAFE’s scope encompasses forensic accounting, fraud prevention and detection, internal controls, digital financial security, and public awareness of financial scams. It provides a platform for students and faculty to explore financial statement manipulation, asset misappropriation, payment fraud, identity theft, phishing, and the protection of sensitive financial information. The society will encourage engagement with accounting professionals, auditors, financial institutions, and cybersecurity specialists to develop practical understanding of these issues.

SAFE’s role is to organize expert talks, workshops, case discussions, simulated exercises, and awareness campaigns that build analytical skills and encourage secure financial practices. It will help students examine financial irregularities through educational cases, understand the importance of evidence and confidentiality, and learn appropriate reporting channels for suspected misconduct. Through professional collaboration and community outreach, SAFE will promote ethical conduct, informed vigilance, and greater awareness of safeguards against financial and digital fraud.
