Description

The Department of English (UGS) organized an insightful webinar on the topic “Russian Formalism: Literary Theory and Beyond” on February 19, 2025, in the Video Conference Room, Rumi Block. The event came out to be an exciting session for the students of BS English 7th-semester who are currently studying the course entitled “Introduction to Literary Theory”.
This event aimed to offer an in-depth exploration of Russian Formalism, an influential school of thought that revolutionized the study of literature in the early 20th century. Through expert insights, we delved into the core principles of Formalism, its key figures, and its lasting impact on literary theory.
Dr. Maria Staton, Professor at the University of Maryland Global Campus, Japan, an internationally recognized academician in English Studies, graced the occasion as the guest speaker. Her presence provided the students with an invaluable opportunity to engage with an expert in the field and deepen their understanding of literary theory in general and Russian Formalism in particular.
