As Analyst Strategic Intelligence Matters

  • Served in Research and Analysis Wing Directorate General Inter Services Intelligence from November 2004 to February 2010, encompassing interstate relations and security/ intelligence cooperation.

-           Gained valuable experience of interaction with US Embassy staff on host of post 9/11 security and intelligence cooperation between two countries.

-           Evaluated and processed various policy reports, statements and think tank reports containing US-Pakistan cooperation in global war on terror and bilateral cooperation for senior leadership of the organization.

-           Attended number of workshops imparting training in research and analysis skills organized by Islamabad based US and Canadian Intelligence services officials.

-           Gained valuable experience of civil-military working by interacting with important ministries and departments at Islamabad.

-           Interaction with number of foreign delegations in Pakistan and abroad was unique experience to empirically test theoretical knowledge by applying in practical situations, especially violent extremism.  

As Counterterrorism (CT) Analyst

-           Served in CT Wing ISI, from (February 2010 to February 2015), and had been involved in processing of domestic and international CT instruments.

-           Enjoyed distinction of briefing incoming intelligence and media delegations on Pakistan’s contributions in War against Terrorism and gained invaluable experience and knowledge through interactive discourses on the subject.

-           Interacted with local think tanks and NACTA for comparison of data on domestic and regional terrorism. Additionally, hands on experience to handle and observe terror suspects was an exclusive experience to gain knowledge about various facets of violent extremism and terrorism through un-participant observation method.

As Analyst Defence and Strategic Studies - Strategic Plans Division

  • Served in SPD from February 2015 to February 2020 in Policy and Strategic Planning Branch and remained engaged in analyzing policy, doctrinal and strategic aspects pertaining to nuclear deterrence.
  • Deep understanding of subtleties of nuclear diplomacy through selective interaction with Disarmament Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and foreign delegations.
  • Evaluation of important reports by international think tanks on defence and strategic matters related to South Asian security architecture covering nuclear deterrence, doctrines and development of strategic weapons.
  • Understanding of various arms control and strategic export control regimes, visibly discriminating Pakistan and accommodating other regional power India, due to geo- political and geo-economic considerations.
  • Better understanding of Indo- Pacific strategic dynamics with US and India as major players in addition to China and possible impact on security calculus of South Asia

 

As a PhD Research Scholar

-           By successfully completing rigorous process of doctorate degree in fall 2019, endeavored to understand the dynamics of a practitioner of security and terrorism becoming an academic.

-           Ontological realities and epistemological interpretations under theoretical paradigm were revealing and equipped me with reasonable knowledge of research methodology, and sharpened my research skills.

-           Completing thesis on security, terrorism and three tier evaluations of Pakistan’s foreign policy, domestic dynamics, regional constraints and systemic compulsions broadened the horizon as researcher in security, terrorism and strategic studies in general.
